Two prices exist. One applies when a customer pays with cash. A slightly higher price applies when a customer pays with a card. The price increase helps the business offset processing and other business related costs while still allowing customers to choose how they want to pay.

A surcharge adds a fee only to credit card transactions and cannot be applied to debit cards.
With dual pricing or cash discounting, the business displays the higher card price as the standard price and may let customers know they can pay less when paying with cash, check, or ACH. Because the higher price is the posted price, this model remains compliant and helps businesses keep more of their revenue.
